Send your local candidates - regardless of party - the following link and tell them it’s important to you that they take the time to talk to equity-minded voters!
What should I say when I ask them?
The best thing you can do is to be heartfelt and ask them to complete the survey so you can understand their beliefs on an issue that’s important to you. But if you’re not what to write, here’s an example. Be sure to personalize it!
Sample text (replace the bold text!):
Mr. Truman,
As a one of the constituents of District 7, I am very interested in knowing where you stand on an issue that’s very important to me: equity. Missouri Equity Education Partnership Action has created a survey to help inform thousands of voters like me statewide and in your district. I would appreciate it if you could take a little bit of time to complete their survey. This is for informational purposes, not an endorsement, and it would be very helpful to many voters like me. I am also sending it to your opponent, Mr. Eagleton, and asking him to complete it, as well. Please complete the survey by September 22! Thank you so much!

Frequently Asked Questions
When are the surveys due?
We would like candidates to complete the survey by September 22. If a candidate needs more time, they should reach out to us. The email addresses are on the first page of the survey (before you have to submit anything). We are happy to work with candidates who need a little more time. After all… we got a lot of teachers in the group. We’ll accept late work, but you need to let us know!
How will the surveys be used?
The surveys will be used by the committee, along with publicly available information, candidate statements, and insight from community members, to determine whether a candidate is generally aligned with MoEEP-Action’s values regarding equity. Once that has been determined through our comprehensive process, the results will be published on our website. We will also reach out to candidates who complete the survey to let them know their scores.
Will the answers be made public?
Yes, absolutely. Our goal is help inform Missouri voters. The best way to do that is to let the candidates speak for themselves. We will post everything verbatim. The exceptions are that we will not share any personal contact information that we collect for verification purposes. We also reserve the right to not post responses that are threatening or inappropriate. Our goal is to inform voters and we will not be used as a platform for others to cause problems.
What if I don’t like the score I get?
You’re free to let us know, of course. And trust me… you wouldn’t be the first to let us know. But we’ve done this quite a few times and we’ve continually improved our process. We double and triple check everything. That said, if you let us know, we’ll double check, and if we’re wrong, we’ll adjust the score. We’ve done it plenty of times in the past. However, it has happened less and less often as we’ve improved the process. In other words, the score you get is probably the score you’re getting.
Can I complete the survey for a candidate?
Absolutely not. The only exception is for actual employees of the candidate's campaign to whom the task might be delegated. Otherwise, no one may complete a survey for a candidate. We want to hear from the candidates themselves, so if it’s completed by anyone but the candidate (or their spokesperson), we can’t accept the responses. This is true even if their views are very clear. Many of us feel like we could fill out the survey for Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, but unless they or their campaign complete it themselves, we’ll just have to go without their responses. Thanks for understanding.
